Faststone can be set to show you either the raw image or the embedded jpeg. You might want to try options both to decide which you want. It defaults to embedded jpeg because that is faster. You change it in Settings/RAW tab. Faststone correctly rotates verticals. Two possibilities. 1. You have set the camera to not store the EXIF orientation data. Image editing and viewer programs usually have their own thumbnail browser. I use Irfanview .. and the last time I looked - it worked well in Vista. Just a wild guess .. turn off the thumbnails .. play w awhile .. reboot and turn the thumbnails back on. Seems like this is a common problem in Vista .. The photos app they've included since Windows 10 was slower, had an image blurring issue when you zoomed in and back out and it was missing an option I can't remember. Step 2. For this exercise ensure the following settings are made in the lower left-hand pane: Background colour : black; Auto-Play Timer : 5 seconds. There should be ticks in the boxes for Stretch Small Images , Use Transition Effects and Resize . Sometimes you just don't want to fire up Photoshop for simple image functions.
